05/04/2005: "Thor's Hammer"
Heidi lives in Norway. She has a new photoblog...
Beau Monde is Heidi's new photoblog. You may remember some other shots that I posted from this shoot. I was reminded that I had one left to post when Heidi commented on the post below. I've typed the name Heidi so many times in this post that I see Google traffic from searches for "heidi" in my future.
camera/film: Horseman LX 4x5, Schneider 360mm 6.8 Symmar-S. Polaroid Type 55 Pos/Neg. I always shoot these types of portraits wide open at 6.8 with a bit of forward tilt on the lens board. That's how I get the shallow depth of field. lighting: Elinchrom Octa bank as the main light.

What type of lighting did you use? It looks really soft, and positioned low.

Hey Michael. I rarely ever do any retouching of the catch lights in the eyes, so you can often tell a lot about the lighting by looking closely at the reflections there. The answer is there and in the last line of the post. For a cool $800 plus, you too can own an Elinchrom Octa bank. (not including the light inside).

Holy cow! you get that kind of quality from the Schneider wide open? Amazing...

Serious eye candy Norweigen style. Impressive.

funny thing, "thor's hammer" is the notorious character in a computer game that i regularly play. it's called GunBound.

I never really explained the title, but that's what is on her necklace.

Sorry for missing the obvious regarding the lighting. How would compare the quality of light from the Octa bank vs. a similarly sized retangular soft box?

Wow...sorry I haven't been stopping by every day, but thankfully Ben pulled me back. As always, looking at your work just makes me happy.

I loved this day. We had fun brooks, and once again, she's beautiful already, but you captured how she REALLY looks. Fantastic babe.

Brooks, great to see the photos you took up. Everyone loves them. Is it possible to get some scanned copies of the ones taken of us? Would be much appreciated... By the way, I put your listing up at my photographersonline.net

Just out of curiosity, how many people like the "one eye visible, one eye covered" look? My personal view is if someone like Heidi has beautiful eyes, I'd prefer to see both of them. (I guess I'm an "eyes" man rather than a "hair" man.)
Just wondering what other people think about this.
