01/18/2005: "Feng Shui Beauty"
No, really. This was shot for an article on Billy Yamaguchi and his unusual approach to beauty... model: Gosia Michnicka haircut and style: Billy Yamaguchi colorist: Toni Hill makeup: Eric Reyes styling: Karie L. Frost retouching: Daniel Ferguson
This photo shoot started with me photographing the model getting a consultation to "cultivate the chi surrounding her." They look for the dominant element of a person (fire, earth, metal, water, wood) and use that and other personal information to determine everything from hair color to personal style tips. Hey, don't look at me, I just take the pictures. :-) You want to know more? Read the Book.
camera/film: Hasselblad, 150mm. Fuji Provia 100F lighting: Lighting is pretty simple. I used a XS Chimera lightbox as the main light and an open Speedo head with a diffuser along the wall behind the large wood pillar on the left to side light her face and hair.

First time visitor- Superb.
Excellent, excellent stuff.
There are times I forget just how expressive really good photography can be- and then, I'm reminded, with images such as these.

I wonder if she liked the look? This may be rhetorical, but is Feng Shui beauty designed to benefit the person or viewer primarily? Personally, I would have felt more chi if her hair was natural and down. Of course, that's Willful Expose' Shui, and it's very exclusive and understood by few.

Okay, and I went to the website and they offer $200 haircuts. Don't worry, Brooks, I'm not blaming you. It's a great photo.

It was for a supplement to Dayspa magazine called Hairspa. You can see the cover here: http://ayola.com/work

This photograph absolutely took my breath away. I am so fascinated by photography and how someone truly talented (like yourself) can bring out elements in a person he/she never realized existed.
It's amazing.
