Hey, Brooks I am proud to say that I have been privileged to have heard the cicadas (nicknamed Brood X by the scientific community) the last time around, exactly 17 years ago when I visited Huntington, West Virginia. The trees around my parents' house were buzzing with them and my mother and I and Julie went out to listen to them all evening. It is a kind of mystical experience and the sound gives an unreal aura to everything. Question is: can you define a lifetime by the re-emergence of the Brood X cicada? Answer is: Yes you can! The next time they appear I will be 74 years old and if I am still Here I vow to fly back to West Virginia and listen to them one more time.
